Most of my work
as a Community Activist involves writing letters; helping people to
represnt themselves. I have helped several Communities to establish
Residents' Associations.
SOME OF MY
ACHIEVEMENTS AS A COMMUNITY ACTIVIST:
- I am Cathaoirleach of
the Weston Gardens Residents' Association, the only Residents' Association
that exists out of all the regeneration areas. We produced our own
vision document for the regeneration of our area, 'Renewal, Integration,
Regeneration' in December 2007. We have negotiated directly with
the Southside Regeneration Agency for a regeneration without demolition.
That's no mean feat when you're dealing with a state sponsored land
grab.
- I am a founding member
of Limerick Regeneration Watch, A voluntary organisation made up of
residents affected by the regeneration process. We aim to empower
residents to take ownership of the regeneration process and ensure
that their rights are safeguarded. People have a right to live in
a clean, safe and secure environment while awaiting regeneration.

- I led a delegation of
residents' from regeneration areas to Brussels to petition the European
Parliament on issues of illegal dumping and anti-social behaviour.
I succeeded. A delegation of EU Commissioners and MEP's will visit
all of Limericks regeneration areas in the near future. (see
