Welcome,

my name is Cathal McCarthy. I am an Independent candidate for the General Election in Limerick East.

I had being thinking about contesting this election since January, I finally made the decission to run on 4th May, following a meeting with the Housing Department in Limerick Council to discuss the John Fitzgerald Report and its implications for my area,

Weston Gardens (pictured here). My neighbours and I had been campaigning for years to save our small estate.

I have no confidence that the Fitzgerald report will be implemented in the way it was intended by Mr. Fitzgerald. Indeed, if the recommendations hadn't been leaked in advance of being presented to Cabinet, I doubt that it would have been published.

I had several conversations with John Fitzgerald before its publication and he was very specific on the issue of policing. The 50 Gardaí recently assigned to limerick, while welcome, are not being deployed as reccommended by the report and were on the way here before the publication of John Fitzgeralds report. There are 250 Gardaí due to be marching out of Templemore next month, it,ll be interesting to find out how many will be assigned to Limerick.

I have a considerable understanding of the workings of both local and central government. I ask that you read my policy document and consider giving me your number 1 vote.

I do not serve a party. I will serve you.

KATHY SINNOTT MEP LENDS A HAND

I was canvassing in town today (Saturday 19th) with Kathy Sinnott MEP, who arrived in Dublin from Brussels this morning and drove to Limerick to lend her support to my campaign. We were well received and distributed 1,000 leaflets and several copies of my Policy Document.

I had informed the Limerick Leader and Limerick Post that I would be in town with Kathy, but they weren't interested. The Leader did send a photographer to cover the Chernobyl Charity Cycle fundraiser. We asked him to take a picture and he obliged. We also took some of our own; click on a picture to view a larger version.

I had to take issue with the Leader for editing 13 my 30 questions for the 30th Dáil, even though I had kept them to the requested number of words per answer. You can CLICK HERE to read the unedited answers

I am doing my best to distribute 6,000 copies of my policy document. If you have read it and decided to give me your No. 1 vote, please pass it on to a friend, the bigger readership, the better chance I'll have to represent Limerick communities in Dáil Éireann.

If you would like to meet with me give me a call or text the number below and I will call you. Thanks for visiting.
